Polymers

Acrylics

Acrylics are plastics that are derived from acrylic acid. The most commonly used acrylic in the home is polymethyl methacrylate, which is used to make Plexiglass, Crystallite, and Lucite. These types of plastics are often used in place of glass because they are clear and able to withstand extreme temperatures.

Around the home, acrylics are clear, tough, and are used to make lighting equipment. This is because they produce non-toxic smoke in the event of a fire. These cold resistant plastics are essential to every home, and even the automobile industry is using acrylics in place of glass.
