Snow Removal Pricing Guide for Homeowners

Snow Removal Pricing Guide for Homeowners - Snow Removal

Snow-filled landscapes are beautiful, but clearing deep snow from the pathways outside of your home can be backbreaking work. An easier way to get the job done is to either buy power snow removal equipment or hire a professional to do the work. Either way, you will want a snow removal pricing guide to help you weigh the costs of your options.

Typical Cost Estimates

Snow blowers or snow throwers, which are used for removal of light snow less than 4 inches deep, usually cost around $100, and up to $500. For moderately heavy snow, a single-gas snow blower is used, and this costs about $300 up $800. A two-stage gas snow thrower used for extremely heavy snow or difficult snow removal jobs costs at least $1,000.

If you’ll be hiring a single worker who will use simple tools and machines like a shovel, a mower equipped with a snow blade attachment or a snow blower, you can expect to pay an hourly rate of around $25 to $75. Remember that when reviewing a snow removal pricing guide for hourly jobs, how long the job will take to complete will depend on site conditions and the type and size of the area. You will generally pay more for having sidewalks and walkways cleared than driveways since it takes more time to clean them.

When you contract a company to provide snow removal services for a standard driveway during the winter, be aware that one snow removal pricing guide will differ from another based on location. In general, such services can cost around $30 up to $45 for every storm, but longer driveways would cost at least $50 up to $65. Clearing gravel and steep driveways would also be about the same price. Expect to pay more when hiring emergency snow removal services or when hiring only after a storm.

Additional Snow Removal Costs

Depending on the snow removal contract, there may be a limit for one season on the number of snow plows on your property, so you may be charged an extra cost for visits that exceed this limit. You may also be billed extra for sanding and salting, although some companies already include this in their plowing rates.

How to Get Some Savings

Sign a snow removal contract before winter to get better rates. If you own a vacation home, you may get a discounted rate if you agree to having your property plowed last after all other occupied homes have been plowed. It’s also possible to get affordable snow removal services for private driveways from your local public works department, but this would be largely dependent on the availability of resources, since the department is primarily responsible for clearing public roads.

How to Avoid Sewer Drain Repair

How to Avoid Sewer Drain Repair - Plumbers

Until something goes wrong, homeowners do not think about their sewer systems. However, if sewer lines are given some attention, potential costs related to sewer drain repair can be avoided.

It is a good idea to include the drains and sewers in your spring-cleaning and have them inspected by a professional. Doing it as soon as possible is something you would be thankful for down the road when you’ve eliminated the need for a costly trenchless sewer repair.

Caring for Your Drains

To avoid sewer drain repair, there are some things you can do to prevent problems from arising, such as:

1. Call in a professional to inspect your sewer system. If you’re living in an older home or purchasing one, have the sewer lines professionally inspected. With today’s technology, there should be no disruption to your property when a sewer line inspection is being performed.

The contractor can either clear you or inform you of any problems that may require sewer drain repair or other repair work. If the problem is caught early enough, the costs usually are not that big.

2. Schedule a regular cleaning of your sewer lines. Sludge, debris, and dirt will build up along the lines even with the newer types and the accumulation would lead to a system back up over time.

A process known as Water Hydro-Jetting can simply clear sewer lines effectively and is comparatively affordable. It can get rid of tree roots that have penetrated the pipes, which can have bigger cracks if the roots are not removed.

3. Be careful when doing landscaping work. One of the most common problems that homeowners deal with is how tree roots puncture pipes and cause leaks. Be aware of where your sewer line is when planting new trees and make sure they will not become a potential problem for the sewer line later when they grow.

4. Use the toilet with care. Many people recklessly throw trash down the toilet like diapers, tampons, cotton swabs, tissue, and other items that do not disintegrate easily and cause blockage in the sewer system.

Need Professional Sewer Drain Repair?

If you’re already dealing with a problem with your sewer drains and require professional help, then using Seva Call is the best way to get in touch with local, reputable plumbers. Let us know what you need now, and we’ll connect you with qualified service professionals in no time!

Make Your Cleaning Fit Your Timetable for a More Efficient Cleaning Lifestyle

Make Your Cleaning Fit Your Timetable for a More Efficient Cleaning Lifestyle - Maid Services

Cleaning is often something that we do as a separate task all at once. In a way, the best thing to do is avoid this, as it can often result in leaving the main event until it is too late.

Do You Need a More Efficient Cleaning Schedule?

Cleaning is an essential part of your home life, as there is little that will make a place less pleasant to live than a filthy house. The dust commonly found in the home will be mostly made up of skin cells, and will carry many allergens and harmful bacteria that are really not what you want to be inhaling!

The best plan of action will be to ensure that you can get your place cleaned without it feeling like a massive undertaking you would rather avoid. But how is this possible? In fact, if you think about it properly, there is little in the cleaning process that is actually that difficult, it is mainly the length of time that it takes and the amount of dirt that needs to be removed.

Making the cleaning a regular task will reduce the amount of time that it takes to clean each time, as the build up of dirt will decrease, and you will not have to be spending ages cleaning up your cleaning materials. The age-old truth with house cleaning is that if you avoid it, then the dirt will build up, and this obviously makes the job harder in the long run, which means that when you have finished cleaning, you will likely not want to do it again for a long while.

How to Clean More Efficiently

This vicious cycle needs to be corrected, so have a big spring clean, or find a professional cleaner, so that you have a blank canvas to work from. Then think about where you could start fitting your professional cleaning work into the day as you go about your working and social life.

When you are cleaning regularly, the jobs that you divide the cleaning into should be extremely quick and easy, as there will be very little dirt and dust build-up. The fact of the matter is that once you are doing the same tasks every week, you can get the efficiency up with great ease as you get used to the tasks, and they will become extremely simple, and you will not think twice about just getting them done.

This means that the tasks will literally be as short as 15 to 30 minutes, and you will not worry about getting such things in before you leave the house for work, or when you get in. Try wedging these little bits and pieces in to these little areas of downtime, and you will hopefully find that your more valuable down and social time will not be nearly as affected.

More Efficient Cleaning

Essentially, the key is to ensure that your cleaning gets tucked away into the little pockets of time that you are alone and not busy, so that your life continues unaffected, but your home stays clean and nice to live in.

Installing Replacement Window Handles

Installing Replacement Window Handles - Window Replacement

Window handles and locks, like other mechanisms, can succumb to regular wear over time, making them work improperly. They can also be damaged accidentally or intentionally. Whatever the cause of the damage, the result can be as serious as your safety being compromised. That’s why installing replacement window handles and/or window locks should be done as soon as possible should you notice anything wrong with these window components.

What You Need to Know

When shopping for replacement window handles, you need to know the exact type you need to replace the existing ones. Also, find out which specific part of the window handle was damaged so you know the exact part that needs to be replaced.

Common Types of Window Handles

Espagnolette

When you turn this type of handle, the spindle will trigger a gearbox that will open the lock mechanism. When this doesn’t happen, either the window handle or lock or both is broken and need to be replaced. When shopping for espagnolette replacement window handles, make sure you know the length of the spindle of your window handles as well as how long the locking mechanism is to make sure you get the handles with the correct length.

Record the name of the window handles’ manufacturer as well as any marking or stamped information on the handle that can help identify the correct replacement. You can also take the old handles with you when you shop to see if you can get an exact match.

1. To install espagnolette replacement window handles, remove the old handles first. Close the windows.

2. Gently lift off the damaged handle. You can now access the window lock to remove it with the handle removed.

3. Next, slide the metal bar at the handle’s back through the window frame’s hole.

4. Screw the window handle into the frame. Replace screws and put back the screw cover, if necessary.

Cockspur

When choosing cockspur replacement window handles, make sure the new and old handles have the same space under their noses. If the handles are sticking or not working, as they should, remove the handle from the window to see what part has the problem.

1. First, locate a screw at the handle’s base and remove it to reveal two other screws. Remove these screws as well.

2. Turn the handle into open position and remove all other screws to completely remove the handle.

3. When replacing the handle, line the replacement up onto the screw holes and screw it into place. Put back the screw cover, if necessary.

Growing Kiwi Fruit Vines

Growing Kiwi Fruit Vines - Landscapers

If you want to profit from the amazing benefits of organic gardening, you could start by cultivating a few vine growing plants in your outdoor space. Kiwi vines are easy to grow and offer you tasty, healthy, nutritious fruits with a unique sweet-and-sour taste. Keep reading to discover a few basic things you should know before growing kiwi fruit vines.

Varieties

There are two varieties of kiwi fruit vines: the Fuzzy Kiwi and the Hardy Kiwi. The latter variety is much-appreciated for its tiny, sweet fruits with soft skin. While the Hardy Kiwi can be cultivated in areas exposed to both sun and shade, the Fuzzy Kiwi requires extensive sun baths to grow properly.

Growing Conditions

Any successful kiwi grower should know that there are two important elements that kiwi fruit vines need in order to develop a solid root system: soil nutrients and plenty of water.

The soil should always be well-drained, and it should contain an elevated amount of organic matter. If you want to put big, juicy organic fruits on your dinner table, remember to add nitrogen fertilizers to the soil in which you are growing kiwi fruit vines.

You also have to water the vines regularly, especially during the hot season. Drought stress is a major threat that should be avoided at all costs. Make sure you grow your kiwi vines in a location with friendly temperatures and offer them year-round protection against powerful winds.

Planting Recommendations

Start by digging the hole where you plan to accommodate the roots of the kiwi plant. Mix the soil with compost and rock phosphate.

If you are dealing with fragile potted plants, make sure to plant them with maximum care to avoid damaging the roots. It is highly recommended to maintain a distance of up to 10 feet between vines.

During the first year, you should water the plant regularly and add mulch to ensure an ideal level of moisture and reduce weeds. Insecticide soap can come in handy, especially if you’ve had insect problems in the past.

Ask an Expert

Growing kiwi fruit vines can be a very rewarding experience, as long as you count on excellent advice ensured by a skilled landscaper. If you don’t know how to take care of your small vegetable garden or if you simply want to rely on an expert option, don’t hesitate to contact the best landscapers who operate in your area.

Wiring Wall Lights

Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014

Wiring Wall Lights - Electricians

A wall light can add the perfect amount of light to a room. Whether you need additional lighting for your work space, or some mood lighting to create a nice ambiance when entertaining guests, wiring a wall light can be done by the average DIY homeowner with basic wiring know-how and techniques.

Thinking of tackling this job this weekend? Here’s what to do:

Arrange the Circuit

1. Choose an area near a wall stud to install your light. Using a jigsaw, proceed to cut out the wall to fit the electrical box so that one side of the opening is against the wall stud.

2. Take the wiring cable and drop an end of it inside the opening you just cut.

3. Then make another opening to accommodate the wall switch and, through this opening, insert the wire and run it to the switch.

4. Then, connect the switch and basement by running another length of wire between the two. If you cannot readily access your basement, you will need to drill through the flooring inside the wall.

Fasten the Boxes

5. Take the bundle of wiring and secure it inside the box. Pull out the wires and separate them out: bare copper, white, and black.

6. Attach the electrical box to the wall stud at an angle, drilling the long screws right through the box’s screw holes. Secure the plastic box the same way.

Wiring Wall Light

7. Attach the mounting bracket of your new wall light to the box using the provided screws. Using a wire cap, connect the fixture’s white and black wires to the matching ones on the wall. Take the copper ground wire and attach it to the mounting bracket’s grounding screw.

8. Follow the product instructions on how to install the wall light fixture. Tuck the wires inside the box.

9. To wire the switch, wire the white wires together and the copper ones together. Use the provided connection screws to attach the black cables to the switch. Position the light switch  over the box and secure with the covering plate.

Connect to the Electrical Supply

10. Shut off the power in your house by turning off the main circuit breaker.

11. Locate the specific circuit breaker that corresponds to the circuit you’re working on. With the breaker pulled out, hook the black wire to it using the connection screw. Locate the brackets where the ground wires will go and attach the copper and white wires into available spots.

12. Turn on the power.

When You Need Expert Help

Working with electricity is always risky, so if you’d rather be on the safe side, rely on a qualified electrician to handle wiring your wall light instead of attempting it yourself. Use Seva Call to locate a quality electrician right now at no cost!

Fire Retardant House Paint

Fire Retardant House Paint - Painters

Fire accidents are disastrous events that can happen at any time. You might recover your money from your insurance company, but it would be better if you could reduce the risk of fire breaking out or delay its spreading. You can do that by using fire retardant house paint to cover and protect the walls of your house.

Regular Paint versus Fire Retardant House Paints

Most paints that are used on walls and furnishings are usually flammable, and in case of fire, they work as a fuel, feeding the fire, and making it spread faster. On the other hand, using a fire retardant house paint can delay the fire from spreading, protecting the infrastructure of the building.

How Does Fire Retardant House Paint Work?

This kind of paint is specially designed to be a poor heat conductor. When the temperature rises because of fire, fire retardant house paints swell up, forming what is called char. This substance prevents fire from spreading, giving fire fighters the chance to try to put it out. Each fire retardant house paint is rated with regard to fire resistance, which means that you can know for how long it can keep the fire at bay.

When they first appeared, fire retardant house paints were extremely toxic and expensive. Nowadays, there are many options at hand if you decide to use fire retardant house paints for your house or office. They are safer and less expensive.

Whether you decide to use fire retardant house paints to protect your home from fire is up to you, but if you want to limit fire damage, keep in mind that they can be an effective alternative.
